PEM Wrestlers Honor Parents, Score Section Win vs. Pine Island

Last Thursday evening the PEM wrestlers took to the home mat for just the second time this season. It was also Parent’s Night, and this season the PEM wrestlers and the stat/video techs (with the help of Assistant Coach Cam Miller) created a video to thank their parents personally for all of the support, food, laundry, and transportation that is often taken for granted. After the Parent’s Night festivities concluded, the Bulldogs took to the mat to face the Panthers.

Pine Island got off to a strong start with a close decision at 106. Then a PEM forfeit at 113, a Panther pin at 120, and another forfeit at 126 gave Pine Island an early 21-0 lead in the dual meet. But it did not last long, when PEM accepted forfeits in the next 5 weight classes with Jacob Harlow (132), Cooper Hofschulte (138), Garrett Olson (145), Kael Lamb (152), and Cael Marx (160).

PEM got their first pin of the night at 170 with senior Dereck Boyum needing just :46 seconds to get the takedown and pin. Alex Rahman followed up for the Bulldogs at 182, getting out to a 4-0 lead in the 1st period, then following it with another takedown and pin in the second.

Then at 195, junior Martin Prieto followed the trend, and after 2 first period takedowns sank an arm-bar for the pin with :13 seconds remaining in the opening round. Tony Roberton accepted a forfeit for the Bulldogs at 220 to give the Bulldogs 54 straight points in the meet. Pine Island finished with a decision victory at 285 to close the gap to a 30 point Bulldog victory
